# Folders and tags

Cubox gives you two complementary ways to organize:

  • Folders: group content (like shelves or directories).
  • Tags: label content (like sticky notes; they can span folders).

In practice:

  • Same theme or project → folder
  • Multiple dimensions or cross-cutting topics → tags

You do not need a perfect system on day one. Save and read first; refine structure as the library grows.

We also recommend Cubox CLI so an agent can help you tidy or reorganize on a schedule.

# Folders (nested)

You can:

  • Long-press or right-click a folder → create a subfolder
  • Drag folders → reorder or change nesting
  • Move cards between folders

On Android, if subfolders cannot be created inline, create a folder first, then drag it under the parent.

Good for:

  • Long-running themes (e.g. “AI”, “design”)
  • A concrete project
  • A focused reading sprint

# Tags (hierarchical)

Tags add flexible labeling:

  • Use / for levels, e.g. tech/apps/productivity
  • Long-press or right-click in the tag or card list to create tags
  • Drag tags to change order or hierarchy

You can also:

  • Merge similar or duplicate tags
  • In search, use #tag to filter
  • Combine multiple tags for “must include all” filters

Good for:

  • Topics (e.g. “startup”, “consumer spending”)
  • States (e.g. “to sort”, “ideas”)
  • Personal focus areas

# Smart folders

If you prefer less manual work, use smart folders: define rules and Cubox keeps matching cards in those lists automatically.

See Smart folders for how to set them up.
